Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
Coffee With Kenobi: Episode 41 has some discussion of the Topps Star Wars Trading Card game and news. The Bearded Trio segment has some audio of Michael J. Fox from a Back to the Future panel, as well as some audio on a sequel to Gremlins. Then Bryan, Bobby and Mike from Full of Sith drop by with Cory and Dan to talk Star Wars, Legends, canon, tv and films as it all relates to storytelling past and present. This leads to some intriguing and entertaining discussion of books and comics and what stories they’d like to see as well as what they don’t want to see. Everything wraps up with listener feedback. Good episode.
Disney Vault Talk: Jungle Book episode starts with listener feedback. For the main discussion, they have guest Jimmy Mac join them as they dive into Disney’s The Jungle Book complete with fun facts, favorite memories and even some singing. It’s a lot of fun and well worth checking out.
Fly Casual: Episode 51 is a reviews and rumors episode. They cover Star Wars #7 and Kanan – The Last Padawan #4. There’s another “Tarkin Bite of the Week”, then Star Wars Episode VIII rumors, The Force Awakens rumors, Netflix rumors and more. No Corey in this episode, but it’s still pretty good.
Full of Sith: Episode CXXVIII is their D23 Expo recap, however it kicks off with all the info Entertainment Weekly spilled out. There’s a ton of discussion in this episode given all the topics, making it a great one to listen to. You won’t want to skip this one, and I highly recommend not putting it off.
Legends Library: Darth Bane: Rule of Two episode features guest Alex Damon (Star Wars Minute) as they discuss Drew Karpyshyn’s second Darth Bane novel, Rule of Two. There’s a lot of good discussion. The hosts give a good flow to the show, and with the good sound quality, it’s worth a listen for Star Wars book fans.
RebelForce Radio: Episode 8.14.2015 covers the Entertainment Weekly The Force Awakens coverage and, I have to admit, they go deeper than anyone else by actually talking to the Entertainment Weekly writer Anthony Breznican. He’s also the guy who hosted The Force Awakens panel at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim. Their conversation with Anthony was very insightful as I really didn’t know much about him and this interview really pulled back the curtain. Definitely worth a spot on your Star Wars playlists. It’s interviews like this that make a great podcast. Big thumbs up on this one.
Skywalking Through Neverland: Episode 88 covers upcoming events, then transitions to a conversation with Matt Cox, one of the only adults to get to participate in the Jedi Training Academy at Disney. Matt shares his story on how that happened, as well as some other fun stories. Afterwards they again talk with Star Wars artist Randy Martinez for more of their Star Wars Marvel reviews of the old comics, which is definitely worth listening to. Not only do you get the fan perspective, but you also get an artist’s perspective with their added insight.
Star Wars Action News: Episode 456 includes some discussion of the SDCC First Order Trooper’s quick online sell out, Star Wars showing up on non-toy items, upcoming Wizard World Chicago and their 10 anniversary party, plus coverage of the Hot Wheels die cast ships and Fantasy Flight Games collectibles.
Star Wars Report: Episode #179 features Mark, Jason and Karl (The Wampa’s Lair), and Steve and Teresa (Disney Vault Talk) as they cover news topics like J.J. breaking his back, and then speculate on Star Wars Netflix shows. Lot of fun discussion. With five hosts, there’s a wide variety of views, and they do a pretty good job of juggling between speakers, giving each person their change to weigh in.
Talking Apes TV: Flames of Doom episode starts with a discussion on the Zira and Cornelius live show. Then they tackle the first episode of The Planet of the Apes animated show. They highlight the key moments, go over the visuals, the sounds, play some audio clips and point out the contradictions. It’s a fun look at the show. While I’ve never seen the cartoon, they do a great job of describing it in such a way that you can still listen and enjoy the episode whether you’ve seen it or not.
The 602 Club: Episode S7 features a very nice interview with author Christie Golden as they talk about Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Dark Disciple. It’s got great sound quality, good hosts, good questions and excellent discussion. Since this is a post Dark Disciple release interview, it has a slightly different feel to it, but it’s also much more generalized in focus. Rather than going after specific plot details, they touch on the themes and motivations of the story. Good one to check out if you enjoyed the book.
