Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.
501stCast: Minicast Know A Legion Episode #3 spotlights the Northeast Remnant Garrison, their origin as they grew out of the Empire City Garrison, trooping incentives and more as they speak with Jeffrey Nichols, TK-1454.
Aggressive Negotiations: Issue 018 puts John in the hot seat as Matthew grills him on why Revenge of the Sith is the best Star Wars movie. John makes his case, and it’s interesting, but as someone who finds ROTS to be their least favorite Star Wars film, I wasn’t swayed by John’s arguments. Good try, though.
Assembly of Geeks: Remembers Spock & The Wrath of Khan episode starts with some more Hollywood what if’s as they talk about how Nicolas Cage was almost the Green Goblin, Jason Momoa was almost Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy, and a bunch of others. It’s a fun discussion. Then they get into the upcoming director’s cut for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the extra 30 minutes of footage. They talk about the Mary Poppins sequel with Emily Blunt, the For the Love of Spock documentary, Ghostbuster Day, and then they a lengthy and fun discussion on The Wrath of Khan including the director’s cut. Plus Emily talks about her run in with the Flash. Great episode.
Blabba the Hutt: Episode #23 includes Jamie’s story on how he got to work on the set of Star Wars Episode VIII, they have a report on Belfast Con, tackle listener questions, cover the Netflix show rumor, the Thrawn rumor, the details on their podcast stage event at Star Wars Celebration Europe, and then break into a great interview with Mark Austin who was an animator on A New Hope, he talks about his experiences working on the films, how he got to put on the Boba Fett costume, his love for the character and even a story he wrote about Boba Fett. Definitely a good episode to check out. I recommend this one.
Blast Points: Episode 25 covers Rogue One news/rumors, John Williams comments, then they head into their main discussion which is Return of the Jedi. They talk about a lot of things, from the Imperial Shuttle and the creatures in Jabba’s palace to Luke’s decisions, the Rebel briefing room and Palpatine’s dialog. I didn’t realize the person who voiced Boushh also voiced E.T. Fun and entertaining episode as always. Great stuff.
BNN (Bombad Radio): Episode 6.13.16 covers the 10 big news items of the week including the sequel for Injustice: Gods Among Us, the Warcraft box office numbers, Stan Lee’s favorite superhero film, John Williams scoring Indy 5, Doctor Strange, a Fallout 4 glitch, and E3.
Bombad Radio: Spirit of Star Wars Part 1 kicks off their news series covering films influenced by Star Wars. In this episode they discuss The Fifth Element and how the film was influenced by Star Wars as well as a series of french comics that influenced the original trilogy of Star Wars. Plus, how The Fifth Element played a part in influencing the Star Wars prequels. It’s a fun discussion.
Brews and Blasters: Episode #74 begins with a Neil Diamond video turning into a Mark Hamill mystery, Boss Nass impressions, Ki-Adi-Mundi under fire, Star Wars cookies, a Star Wars swingset, the dixie cup story, Need’em Got’em, a quick break on X-Men: Apocalypse, a funny story on a $154 Star Wars action figure eBay auction, and listener emails. It’s always fun listening to Brews and Blasters and this episode is no different which keeps this podcast at the top of my favorites list.
Classic Marvel Star Wars Comics (Skywalking Through Neverland): Episode #9 covers issue #9 as they talk with Star Wars artist Randy Martinez. They cover Jaxxon and the scantily clad Amaiza, the sometimes awful dialog, the odd visuals, and all the weird and strange things that make the old Marvel Star Wars comics quirky and fun. Great episode.
Comic Book Noob: Nightwing episode is a fun one as they discuss the character, how they went from Robin to Nightwing and back to Robin on occasion, as well as the character’s role with the Teen Titans. Nightwing is a character I didn’t know much about, so this one was very fun to listen to.
Databank Brawl (ForceCenter): Episode 11 sets up Wuher versus Elan Sleazebaggano in a showdown on Coruscant. It’s the grumpy bartender against the deathstick dealer. Did Elan really rethink his life? Does Wuher really hate droids? They cover all of that, as well as who would die in this messy brawl.
Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode 33 talks about the Rogue One reshoots, Loungefly bags, Celebration Europe, Celebration Orlando, Chewbacca mom, LEGO Star Wars keychains, Dave Filoni’s comments on female characters, and they talk about a Star Wars Reads Day event. Then they talk with guest Cat Taber about Padme, creating good female characters, doing voice over for The Force Awakens, doing Star Wars LEGO, Disney Infinity and Star Wars Uprising, as well as her new show. They wrap things up with a character discussion on the inquisitors. Good episode.
Fly Casual: Episode 93 is again Cory-less, but the rest of the gang covers for him as they review Star Wars #19 and Obi-Wan & Anakin #5. Their Tarkin bite of the week was interesting as I didn’t know there was a connection to a German general named Hoth. Afterwards they get into Poe rumors which is where I dropped off. Good episode up until that.
ForceCenter: Episode 17 covers what their expectations were for The Force Awakens and what changes they would have made. It’s an interesting discussion.
Full of Sith: Episode CLXX focuses on Darth Maul. They share their thoughts on the character, seeing him in The Phantom Menace, his death and his return, his brother and his scheming.
Full of Sith: Episode CLXXI features Bryan’s event at Fan Con as he speaks with the kids in the audience about their favorite Star Wars films, Rey, debunking Jar Jar being a Sith, the relationship between Anakin and Palpatine and Kylo and Snoke, and a bunch of other topics. The audio quality is a little degraded and it’s not your typical Full of Sith episode.
Rebel Force Radio: Episode 6.10.2016 is their recording from Joliet Star Wars Day as they talk with congressman Bill Foster about Star Wars and science, Star Wars author John Jackson Miller who talks Star Wars, Star Trek, Planet of the Apes and TV Guide, as well as Keith Kappel (freelance writer for Fantasy Flight Games). Michael Witwer hangs out with them and even Chris Macht shows up. It’s a fun episode.
Rock Out Loud: Misunderstood Meanings tackles songs that people might not have realized what the song was really about. They cover Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA”, “Slide” by the Goo Goo Dolls, The Eagles “Hotel California”, Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight”, Greenday and more. Plus Steve quizzes Kristin by playing one second of a song to see if she can name it. She does pretty good. Between the song meanings and the one second song challenges, it was a fun episode.
Rumor Control: Episode 06 features the return of Bobby for a special episode as he gives a full rundown on the Rogue One reporting debacle and how one site sent the internet into chaos. It’s a great step-by-step breakdown of who reported what and how the whole story spun out of control, as well as a look at what is probably the truth behind it all. Great episode.
Starships Sabers and Scoundrels: Episode The Drool of Two led to a marathon as I caught up on episodes. This one covers Star Wars Day, their favorite Star Wars quotes, and a little rant about there being no 6-inch Black Series Hera, plus some fun segments and skits. This is definitely a podcast to keep your eye on as Dennis and Taxus have a pretty good thing going on here. It’s funny and entertaining from beginning to end.
Starships Sabers and Scoundrels: Dommage a Drois covers video game news, The Star Wars Show, con news, Celebration thoughts and tips such as hotel, tickets, airlines and luggage. They also talk Darth Vader #20 with a nice breakdown of Palpatine’s monologue, some discussion of Thanoth and the droids, and what will happen to Aphra. Very fun episode.
Starships Sabers and Scoundrels: Episode for the Empire discusses Star Wars Celebration Europe and Star Wars Rebels, then they talk with band members Chris and Grant from Galactic Empire. They talk about their band, their music, and their new kickstarter as well as the challenge of dressing up as Star Wars characters. They wrap up the episode with some quick thoughts on Star Wars books and comics. Another fun one. I highly recommend checking this podcast out.
TGR Star Wars Hour: Episode XXV covers James Luceno’s novel Darth Plagueis. With a handful of guests including Becca Benjamin from Tarkin’s Top Shelf, they talk about Plagueis, Palpatine and Tenebrous, the way of the Sith, creating Anakin, and they spend a lot of time arguing in favor of Snoke being Plagueis. Most of the discussion is very character focused and doesn’t really spoil anything from the book, so whether you’ve read it or not, you’re good to go on listening to this one. It’s an interesting discussion even though I fall on the fence that Snoke shouldn’t be Plagueis.
Tosche-Station: Tim Zahn Q&A features the full audio of the Awesome Con panel with Star Wars author Timothy Zahn which was hosted by Bria. Tim talks about how a bad tv show got him into writing, his early writing career, getting the Star Wars gig with Bantam, how they didn’t use the word trilogy, what the Thrawn clone would have been like, and his thoughts on Rogue One, The Force Awakens, Dave Filoni’s tweets, Legends and Rey’s parents. It’s a cool panel with some interesting info. For example, Tim mentions how the first printing of Heir to the Empire was only 70,000 copies, and by the time it fell off the bestsellers list, Bantam was contracted for 12 more Star Wars novels.
Western Reaches: Episode #7 features guest John Bierly as they discuss the usual topics of what they’re currently reading, both books and comics, what video games they’re playing, some Star Wars discussion, and their main topic: Captain America: Civil War. Good episode.
