Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 161 starts off with an unboxing of Dungeons & Dragons Next, flows into a con report of SDCC 2014, then jumps into the main feature: an interview with actor Adam Lazarre-White who voiced Jacob in the Mass Effect series. Adam talks about he got into acting, his early career in soap opera, moving into voice acting, the differences between roles, identifying scenes, being the character, and even basing Jacob on Han Solo. Kind of a neat interview and worth listening to if you’re a Mass Effect fan or interesting in acting and voice acting.

Coffee with Kenobi: Episode #22 includes some feedback on the Star Wars Rebels trailer out of SDCC 2014, some comments on the X-wing revealed in the Force for Change video, and the usual “Expresso Shot” from the Bearded Trivia hitting film news including Jurassic World. Consetta Parker stops by to talk about the upcoming Rancho Obi-Wan Gala, and they interview author Ian Doescher. Ian talks about the William Shakespeare Star Wars books, finding the right voices for the characters, and even shares what he’s working on next. Lot of goodness packed into this one episode, so be sure to check it out.

Special Edition: Coffee with Kenobi Discusses SDCC 2014” includes their thoughts on the Star Wars Rebels preview clips and the character of the Inquisitor. Then they with special guest Jeff McGee (Assembly of Geeks) about SDCC and collectibles. Jeff’s always a fun guy to listen to and Star Wars Rebels and SDCC make good discussion topics. Another good one to add to your playlist.

Full of Sith: Episode LXXVI features Bryan, Amy Ratcliffe, Chris Taylor, Jawa James Floyd, and Dartanian as they talk SDCC and Star Wars Rebels including their thoughts on seeing the premier episode. Then there’s audio with a roundtable discussion with Dave Filoni, and other roundtables with Simon Kinberg, Freddie Prinze Jr. (who confirms that Greg Weisman was only with the show for season one), Tiya Sircar, Taylor Gray, Steve Blum, and Vanessa Marshall. Lots of great audio and answers from the cast and crew of Star Wars Rebels. A must listen to episode for Star Wars Rebels fans.

Jedi Journals: August 2014 episode is all about literature as they dig into new releases and upcoming titles, the newly announced Marvel Star Wars series, the new Marvel Star Wars omnibus, some special Star Wars hardcovers that Abdo Pub is offering on Amazon, and more.

RebelForce Radio: Episode 8.1.14 features special guests David Collins and James Arnold Taylor. Dave talks about SDCC 2014, being on the panels, talking with the cast of Star Wars Rebels and his thoughts on the show. James comes on later to talk about Star Wars Weekends, hanging out with his friend John Ratzenberger, talking with Mark Hamill, doing Obi-Wan for Star Wars Rebels and what his thoughts are on the show. Great episode with awesome guests.

Secrets of Star Wars: Episode 17 tackles the latest news. They cover the filming in Puzzlewood and Skellig Michael island. They have audio clips of Mark Hamill and Kevin Smith (which contains some masterful editing as they seamlessly removed every curse word). Plus Daisy Ridley and John Boyega rumors (are they stormtroopers?), the possibility of Gwendoline Christie being an Imperial officer chasing them, and the leaked plot rumor about Luke’s severed hand. All that, and the Force for Change video with the X-wing, thus bringing a bunch of Star Wars Episode VII discussion. If you’re looking for Ep VII discussion, this is definitely a podcast worth checking out.

Skywalking Through Neverland: Episode 41 has a recap of SDCC and a very lengthy, yet intriguing, discussion on geeks versus fans with guests Scott Murray (Assembly of Geeks) and Mark Oguschewitz. They cover the geek transformation of society, the acceptance of geeky pop culture, and the thin lines between healthy and unhealthy fandom. Plus they cover Kevin Smith’s comments on Star Wars Episode VII, and feature some audio from George Takei which leads to a Star Trek discussion. Nice episode with lots of fun and insightful topics.

Star Wars Action News: Episode 430 is part two of their San Diego Comic Con 2014 coverage with an interview with the guys at Hasbro, their thoughts and excitement for the 6-inch Black Series, an interview with Kotobukiya, an interview with author Jeffrey Brown, and an interview with Daniel Wallace. Lots of great audio clips and interviews satisfying both collectors and lovers of the books. Definitely worth a listen.

Star Wars Bookworms: Episode 26 touches on the announcement of the Ventress/Vos novel that Christie Golden will be doing, then heads into a discussion of Dawn of the Jedi: Force Wars. As usual, they go into full spoiler territory, this time with special guest Zak “PT” Thorogood. They give their thoughts on the characters and what did and didn’t work for them. Afterwards they go into a full discussion of Legacy: Prisoners of the Broken Ring covering the artwork, characters and story. It’s a good discussion and worth checking out if you liked the two comic arcs.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Assembly of Geeks: “Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool & Ivy Doomkitty” episode starts with an interview with cosplayer Ivy Doomkitty. Then they talk about the leaked Deadpool test footage with Ryan Reynolds and cover some other news and rumors. The main discussion, however, is Guardians of the Galaxy which all three hosts managed to see. They share their thoughts and how they thought it ranked with the other Marvel movies.

Bombad Radio: August Free-For-All Episode features Jeremiah, James and Jesse. They cover the leaked Deadpool footage featuring Ryan Reynolds, Age of Ultron news, lots of SDCC stuff, a strange Spider-Man statue in Korea, other Spider-Man news, Flash, Gotham, Mad Max: Fury Road, Sinister 6, Wonder Woman, Dwayne Johnson and even a little bit about Agent Carter. It’s a jam packed movie and tv discussion episode.

Coffee with Kenobi:A Cup of Clone Wars – The Disappeared Parts I & II” features special guests Laird Malamed (Indy Cast) and Chris Hamilton (Star Wars Kidscast) as they cover the Jar Jar/Mace episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Six. From Mace’s treatment of Jar Jar, the music, Mother Talzin and all the Indy nods, they cover a wide range of topics. Fun discussion to check out.

Full of Sith: Episode LXXVII is a great show features guests Dan and Cory from Coffee with Kenobi. The whole gang weighs in on Star Wars Rebels, Kevin Kiner, Greg Weisman and even some Leia discussion. Lots of great topics and definitely worth checking out.

RebelForce Radio: Episode 8.8.2014 covers their trip to the west coast as they visited Skywalker Ranch and Lucasfilm headquarters. They talk with Dave Filoni about podcasting and the differences between Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It’s a friendly discussion but not too deep on Rebels. Jason and Jimmy talk about Bail Organa, the feel of Rebels, and the sound. Then they interview Pablo Hidalgo who gives them some Celebration advice and talks about why he isn’t hosting this time. The episode ends with a special “Billy Dee Quote of the Week” featuring Robot Chicken’s Bitch Pudding episode.

Episode 8.15.2014 is a tribute to Robin Williams as the hosts talk about the actor, his ties to Star Wars, and his impact on comedy. They also have some audio clips from an interview he did with George Lucas that’s pretty cool to listen to. It even leads to a Howard the Duck discussion. They also finish off their recap of their west coast Star Wars trip, their visit to Rancho-Obi Wan, and they talk with Steve Sansweet. Good episode all around.

Attack of the Clone Commentary with Sam Witwer continues their fun discussion of the films and the entertainer insights from Sam, Jimmy and Jason. They talk about Anakin and Padme’s creepy love, the Kaminoan’s nod to Area 51, homages to American Graffiti, cut scenes that could have improved Padme’s storyline, and more.

Star Wars Bookworms: Episode #28 has a great interview with author Adam Bray. They talk about his book Star Wars: What Makes a Monster?, his world travels, sightseeing in New Zealand and checking out the Lord of the Rings filming locations, how the Star Wars Rebels Visual Guide project came about, his research for the book, interviewing Dave Filoni, and more. If you’ve already listened to Rebels Report’s interview with Adam Bray, this interview does a great job of avoiding the previously asked questions. There’s not much overlap and Adam talks about a lot of stuff he didn’t mention before.

Star Wars Oxygen: Volume 9 wraps up their discussion of the music of The Empire Strikes Back. They cover unused scores for Yoda, the mynock scene, Cloud City, the lightsaber fight and a different version of the end sequence. Excellent discussion as always with lots of sound clips.

Star Wars Report: Episode #139 features special guest Pete Morrison (Rebels Report) as he and Riley talk about Star Wars Rebels, the pilot episode (which Pete was able to see at SDCC), San Diego Comic Con 2014, and they end the show with a Guardians of the Galaxy discussion.

Episode #140 focuses on Dragon Con. Riley and Bethany talk with Dragon Con’s Star Wars track director Brandy Roatsey as they discuss what will be happening at this year’s Dragon Con and what’s involved in being the track director for the Star Wars content. It’s an interesting episode.

Tosche Station Radio: Episode #90 covers a wide variety of topics. They touch on the newly announced Marvel Star Wars titles, they review The LEGO Movie, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Guardians of the Galaxy (and they do dive into spoilers). They talk about Star Wars Rebels, criticism from fans regarding the new Star Wars canon, the Disney parks, and more.

When the Jedi decide to target Count Dooku—Darth Tyranus—himself, they turn to his ex-apprentice, Asajj Ventress, for help in getting close to the slippery Sith Lord. But when unexpected sparks fly between Ventress and Quinlan Vos, the unorthodox Jedi sent to work with her, the mission becomes a web of betrayal, alliances, secrets, and dark plotting that might just be the undoing of both Jedi and Sith—and everything in between!
