Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review.

Bombad Radio: Episode 162 is actually a remix of two old episodes featuring an interview with actor, director and voice actor Kristoffer Tabori. For the first time, they present the two part interview in one seamless episode. I hadn’t hear this one before, so it was a fun interview to listen to. Kris talk about the work he’s done, voicing HK-47 in KOTOR, auditioning for Star Wars: A New Hope and shares a lot of fun Hollywood stories.

Coffee with Kenobi: Episode #23 starts off with some Star Wars Rebels discussion as they cover the 7 minute preview clip. The Bearded Trio chimes in with a quick interview with Cory Dee Williams. Afterwards, Dan and Cory have a spoiler free Guardians of the Galaxy chat. Then there’s the main feature: their interview with author Adam Bray on the Star Wars Rebels: The Visual Guide. Adam talks about his travel books, working with different teams to make the Visual Guide, and some fun general Star Wars discussion.

Full of Sith: Episode LXXVIII is their “Rumor Control” show focusing on the latest Star Wars Episode VII rumors and possible leaks. If you’re avoid rumors, you’ll definitely want to skip this one. However, if you want to catch up on all the latest rumors, this is a great episode to listen to. They cover the Stormtrooper helmets, Han Solo’s outfits, the cyborg/inquisitor Vader-villain, and a very nice breakdown of how all of these rumors might flow together. The show also starts out with some listener feedback covering previous topics like Shadows of the Empire, evil Yoda, etc. It’s a good episode to check out.

Geek Out Loud: Episode 100 begins with listener feedback on Superman, Buffy and Star Wars. Then Steve brings on his first guest, the one and only James Arnold Taylor, as they talk Star Wars and beyond. Then Jimmy and Jason come on to talk wrestling, Trek, movies, comics, the 80’s and more. It’s a very fun episode and worth a listen.

Rock Out Loud: The “ANTHEMS!” episode covers rock anthems. From AC/DC “For Those About to Rock” to Guns N Roses “Paradise City”, they cover a variety of hit songs and great bands with lots of fun discussion. The show kicks off with Kristin’s concert review of Def Leppard/KISS, they talk a little Lenny Kravitz, and there’s lots of listener feedback. And if you stay after the credits, there is a bonus convo where Steve and Kristin talk about Kristin’s dad and his strange obsession with a weird band. It’s interesting and worth hanging around for.

Skywalking Through Neverland: Episode 42 includes a lot of discussion on Guardians of the Galaxy without very many spoilers. While they do spoil the end credit scene (there is plenty of warning for those still avoiding spoilers), the rest of their discussion focuses on their general thoughts about the film and the characters, and the build up and promotion of the film. For the discussion, they’re joined by Dave Skale. Afterwards they toss around the idea of doing some monthly movie music episodes and talk with Adam and Bobbie Jo Medina about winning the opportunity to stay at Disney’s Haunted Mansion.

Episode 43 starts out with guest Paul Barrie (Window to the Magic) as they talk about the Friends of the Magic Meet-Up at Disneyland. Paul talks about how he got started in podcasting, organizing the meet-up, and his unique way of recording audio. From there, they talk with guests Adam and Bobbie Jo Medina again to follow-up on their stay at Disney’s Haunted Mansion. They go over the details of all the things they were able to see and do at the special event. They also have Mark Oguschewitz on to talk Muppets Most Wanted which came out on DVD. Plus there’s a Robin Williams tribute.

Star Wars Action News: Episode 431 has a full review of the Black Series SDCC Jabba the Hutt detailing his box, mouth movement, Salacious Crumb and accessories. They also review the Han and Greedo cantina set, talk about the ridiculously expensive aftermarket SDCC black hole stormtroopers, and the more affordable Darth Vader Hot Wheels car. Afterwards, they broach the topic of collectible Star Wars pins and all the ones that will be available for Celebration Anaheim. Johnathan also has an “On the Pegs” report for those hunting the stores, and Steve the Ginger Prince has a report from London Film and Comic Con.

A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller is out today in hardcover, audio and digital formats.

“The war is over. The Separatists have been defeated, and the Jedi rebellion has been foiled. We stand on the threshold of a new beginning.”—Emperor Palpatine

For a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights brought peace and order to the Galactic Republic, aided by their connection to the mystical energy field known as the Force. But they were betrayed—and the entire galaxy has paid the price. It is the Age of the Empire.

Now Emperor Palpatine, once Chancellor of the Republic and secretly a Sith follower of the dark side of the Force, has brought his own peace and order to the galaxy. Peace through brutal repression, and order through increasing control of his subjects’ lives.

But even as the Emperor tightens his iron grip, others have begun to question his means and motives. And still others, whose lives were destroyed by Palpatine’s machinations, lay scattered about the galaxy like unexploded bombs, waiting to go off. . . .

The first Star Wars novel created in collaboration with the Lucasfilm Story Group, Star Wars: A New Dawn is set during the legendary “Dark Times” between Episodes III and IV and tells the story of how two of the lead characters from the animated series Star Wars Rebels first came to cross paths. Featuring a foreword by Dave Filoni.

Click here to check out the official Random House page for the book which includes excerpts, purchase links and more. For those near Grand Chute, WI, author John Jackson Miller and the 501st Legion’s Wisconsin Garrison will be at Barnes & Noble for the A New Dawn book signing. You can check out the details here.

Here is this week’s Podcasts in Review. For those looking for John Jackson Miller interviews, you’re in luck, as they’re are plenty (though more to come).

Coffee with Kenobi: Book Chat with John Jackson Miller covers his new Star Wars novel A New Dawn which stars two of the main characters from the upcoming television series Star Wars Rebels. They cover the outreach of the book, going after old and new fans alike, the timing of the project, where Kanan and Hera are at this point in their lives, and more. As always, the hosts put together a great interview with excellent questions and good production quality.

Disney Vault Talk: The Saludos Amigos episode covers a Disney movie I’ve never seen. It’s a collection of shorts woven with some documentary footage to create a highlight piece for South America during a time when the US was vying for allies in WWII. As usual, Teresa shares some fun facts and trivia that sheds new light on the films and the company that made them. Together, Steve and Teresa give a nice feel for what the film is like and what it accomplished. For someone like me who isn’t very well versed in the Disneyverse, they do a great job of offering insight and provoking interest. If you like Disney or are just interested in the subject, be sure to give this one a try.

Fangirls Going Rogue: Episode #10 features special guest Steve Glosson, which means you’re in for a treat. They start out with listener feedback and a very nice discussion on cosplay and fandom. They get into their recommended episode picks for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Steve talks about how his Star Wars fandom began, what he feels is the most underrated thing in Star Wars (Hayden Christensen), they cover some Star Wars Episode VII news, and the character discussion this month is Chewbacca which leads to lots of fun conversation. A great episode all around.

Far Far Away Radio: Episode 20 includes a good dose of Star Wars Episode VII rumor discussion and a great interview with author John Jackson Miller on his new book A New Dawn. This being my first time listening to the podcast, I was pleasantly surprised. They fall somewhere in between the likes of Star Wars Report and Bombad Radio. They have a large cast of hosts (six I think) and do an impressive job of letting everyone get a chance to talk without anyone talking over each other. It provides a very diverse group of opinions on the topics they cover. The interview portion didn’t have all the hosts (I think there were three people in on that one), and they not only got John to talk about the characters, the storygroup’s involvement, and canon, but they also covered the parallels to Kenobi which was pretty cool. If you haven’t checked them out, give them a listen.

Geek Out Loud: Episode 101 is Steve’s Guardians of the Universe show featuring special guest Erich Schoeneweiss from Del Rey. They talk all things Guardians and dive into lots of spoilers. Steve also shares tons of info on the comics and how certain things in the movie were nods to the comics. From the infinity stones to Ronin, easter eggs and the soundtrack, they cover it all. I have to admit, Steve and Erich make a great team for covering movies.

Jedi Journals: has a special micro-cast featuring an interview with Jeremy Barlow conducted by Justin Bolger. Justin knocks this interview out of the water with some great questions and superb audio quality. Jeremy talks about the Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comic series from Dark Horse, working with the storygroup, writing Maul and Mother Talzin and more. There are a couple spoilers, so fair warning. Regardless, if you’ve read the comic, you’ll definitely want to check out this interview.

Rebels Report: Episode #16 starts off with a rundown on all the upcoming Star Wars Rebels air dates, then they dive into their interview with author John Jackson Miller covering his latest book A New Dawn. John gets into some details regarding the characters of Kanan and Hera, his angle on portraying the characters, his take on canon and working with the storygroup, and more. Very nice interview with great sound quality and great discussion.

Star Wars Report: Episode #141 features special guest Jimmy Mac as they talk Star Wars, a little bit about Jimmy Mac’s trip to Lucasfilm, Rancho Obi-Wan, Star Wars Rebels and Celebration Anaheim.

Dave Dorman’s Star Wars Legacy

Dave Dorman is one of the greats when it comes to Star Wars art. While he may not be on the same level as concept artists like Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston whose artwork directly affected the films, Dave has still left his mark on the franchise.

His covers have graced Star Wars comics since Dark Horse’s Dark Empire series back in 1991. He’s also done covers and interior illustrations for Star Wars books like Young Jedi Nights and Dark Forces: Jedi Knight as well as magazines like Star Wars Insider and even Topps trading cards. But most impressive of all is that George Lucas has over 70 of Dave Dorman’s original paintings in his personal collection.

Thus we present an extensive collection of Dave Dorman’s Star Wars artwork for your viewing pleasure. From the Emperor to Ewoks, Dave has brought the galaxy far, far away to life.
